A Life Guided by the Spirit is Lived Selflessly 

Gal 5:16-25 

Today we are celebrating Memorial Day and we remember the high character of those who have laid down their lives for our freedom.  The Bible reminds us that there is no greater love than for one person to lay down their lives for their friends.  Here in Galatians 5 Paul is reminding us of the exact same thing.  If we truly love the Lord and His people then we are doing our best to die to ourselves so that we can live for His Glory! 

I.   Internal conflict is essential to believers. vs 16-18

     A. We are commanded to walk in the Spirit. 

     B. Walking in the Spirit puts us in conflict with self. 

II.  The works of the flesh are highly visible. vs 19-23 

     A. Adultery

     B. Fornication 

     C. Uncleanness/ Lewdness

     D. Idoaltry and Sorcery 

     E. Hatred / Contentions

     F. Jealousy 

     G. Outbursts of Anger 

     H. Disputes, Dissensions, Factions, Envying

     I. Drunkeness and Carousing 

     J. Practicing these leads to death

III. The Fruit of the Spirit is easily recognized. vs 22-23 

     A. Love

     B. Joy 

     C. Peace

     D. Patience 

     E. Kindness 

     F. Goodness 

     G. Faithfulness 

     H. Gentleness 

     I. Self-Control 

IV. We must all die to self. vs 24-25
