Peter genuinely wanted to be loyal and faithful to Christ.  The question then must be answered as to how he got so far off track during this most critical moment?  For Peter the desire that he had was noble and yet the means he took to accomplish it was full of pride.  The very same pride that tripped Peter up will trip us up too if we don't address it.

I.   Peter's Confidence was flawed.  vs 66-67

     a. He bragged too much.

     b. He was talking when he should have been listening. 

     c. He didn't think he needed to pray. 

     d. He tried to react too quickly. 

     e. He wasn't fully committed to following. 

II.  Peter's Cowardice was growing. vs 67-72

     a. He was vulnerable to surprise. 

     b. He was willing to compromise. 

     c. He demonstrated his own sinfulness. 

III. Peter's remorse was obvious. vs 72
