The Last Supper and the First Communion

Mark 14:17-26

 In this passage the Lord was closing a chapter on the passover celebration and opening a new one.  Now instead of looking back on the Lord's deliverance from Egypt through the passover meal we celebrate His deliverance from sin through communion.  This first communion celebration set the stage for all of church history to participate in this new passover meal in remembrance of Jesus sacrifice for our sins. 

I.   The old passover meal was full of purpose.  vs 17-18

II.  Choosing to betray the Lord is a fearful thing. vs 19-21

III. Communion serves three purposes.  vs 22-26

      A. It is a look back at Jesus sacrifice. 

      B. It is a look inwardly at our own sin. 

      C. It is look forward to the second coming.
