Understanding the Messiah (Mark 12:35-37)

There are several passages of scriptue that cause us to pause and consider not only their significance but also their meaning. Passages like we are examining today require us to dive into the cultural, historical, and grammatical contexts of the passage to gain a real understanding of what is being said. Here Jesus gently tries to help the pharisees and the saducess understand His role as Messiah one last time. His love for those that were set on destroying Him is an example for all of us to follow.

I. Jesus makes a final attempt to open their eyes. vs 35

II. Jesus addresses one more of their misconceptions about the Messiah. Matt 22:42

III. Jesus gently explains to them the hope of Salvation.

A. Jesus is God

1. He is called by the Name of God.

2. He demonstrates the Attributes of God.

3. He does what only God can do.

4. He was worshipped willingly as God.

B. Jesus is God in Flesh

1. He was sinless

2. His words were powerful

3. His power was unmatched
